Plaster after the first panel sculpted by della Robbia for the Florence cathedral Santa Maria del Fiore. 19th Century copy

A masterpiece of the Italian Renaissance, the marble balcony sculpted by Luca della Robbia (1399 – 1482) adorned the choir of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence for more than two centuries. In a style characteristic of this artist considered the greatest classicist of the 15th century, this work is still admired for the sobriety of the attitudes, the great lightness of the drapes, the clear and erudite composition.

Since the middle of the 15th century, this balcony, intended to accommodate choristers and musicians, faced the one carved in the same years by Donatello, in a completely different style. Today it is on display at the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo in Florence.

Bronzed cast in perfect condition, 1:1 scale copy.
