Italian Mirror, 17th Century

Octagonal in shape, this mirror is set in an impressive gilded wood frame from the Louis XIV period. One recognizes the vocabulary of opulent acanthus leaves and trophy-like staging of objects typical of the period. This mirror is no exception to 17th-century taste. Nevertheless, its Italian origins can be seen in the movement and volume, which are more lively and less hieratic than those that permeated French art at the same time. This 17th century gilded mirror is in very good condition.
