Bust Signed Hilda Kristina Lascari (1886-1937)
Born in Sweden and died in 1937 in New York, Hilda Kristina Lascari (born Gustafson) is a talented Swedish sculptor, who was married to the Sicilian-American portrait painter Salvatore Lascari.
From an early age she studied art in Stockholm, traveled to Greece and other countries in southern Europe while continuing her education. Although the date of her marriage to Salvatore Lascari is unknown, we do know that the couple moved to Rome after the portrait painter received the Prix de Rome scholarship. In 1926, they moved to the United States, and the same year, Hilda Kristina received the Watrous Prize, awarded by the National Academy of Design for her sculpture called The Awakening. This was only the first in a long line of awards she received in recognition of her talent. Among these prizes is the Mc Clees Award from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. In 1935 she became a member of the National Academy of Design. Very good condition.
