Using the lines of the vases adorning the desks of Chinese scholars, this snuffbox indicates its rank and that of its proud owner. The beautiful cinnabar lacquer is perfectly mastered here, carefully sculpted with flowers and butterflies (symbols of joy and loyalty) on a pattern of interlocking diamonds.
