Plaster Bust in the Style of the Merveilleuses, 19th Century

Thérésa Tallien, Juliette Récamier, Fortunée Hamelin, and, of course, Joséphine de Beauharnais, were all among the Merveilleuses of the Directory who, following the craze for Antiquity, borrowed from Greek and Roman goddesses draped, veiled garments, very daring for the time, and crowned themselves with flowing chignons encircled with garlands of flowers. This bust seems entirely in their honor.

Made of plaster and in very good condition, it will elegantly decorate a piece of furniture or a mantelpiece.
