Pair of Bulle-de-savon Opaline Small Bottles, 19th Century
During this second half of the 19th century when the bourgeoisie took over the codes of the aristocracy, night services multiplied on the bedsides of the bedrooms. Usually consisting of a tray, a glass, a water carafe and a smaller one for orange blossom water, these sets come in all sorts of styles and colors thanks to the democratization of opaline. Depending on the financial means of the buyer, this colored glass may be of more or less good quality. The so-called Bulle-de-savon tint appeared in the second half of the 19th century and still seeks the translucency of Empire opalines. Generally of good quality – like the ones we present – they are more delicate than the Pâtes-de-riz that will follow them.
Our two small bottles are enhanced on the body and the cap with patterns of blue and gold vine leaves. The set, lovely, is in very good condition.
