Pair of Bronze Ewers from the Restoration Period – Charles X
Handles in the form of canine monsters in gilt bronze resting on figures of bearded men, mascarons of the same kind under the spouts of the ewers, fluted collars decorated with « postes » and bellies punctuated with interlacing and beaded leaves, all this decorative vocabulary drawing from the artistic palette of the three preceding styles undoubtedly indicates the creation of a bronzier during the Restoration.
With this characteristic taste for decorative art objects mixing patinated bronze and gilded bronze, these ewers play on the contrast, favoring the reading of the golden band enhancing each belly. On these spaces, medallions of antique portraits and Etruscan motifs punctuate the object and enrich it to give it all its allure.
The whole in perfect condition rests on the pedestals decorated with water leaves and gadroons.
