Oil on Canvas Signed Pierre Tardy (1908 - 2007)

A prolific painter of the 20th century, Pierre Tardy essentially painted his native island of Ré. Tardy was an important figure on the island throughout his life, not only because of his family roots (his family has lived there for several centuries) but also because of his erudition and his involvement in research concerning the history of the island in south-west France. His painted and engraved work has for subject the retais countryside, Aunis and Saintonge, reason why one will not be surprised by the label (memory of a room of sale?) annotated “Rochefort” on the back of our painting.

Here, Pierre Tardy has painted a peaceful cove on the island of Ré. The regulars of the island will recognize this characteristic light of the beginning of summer. This signed canvas is in perfect condition and presented in its original frame.
