Metal and/or Silvered Bronze Display, 19th Century
Like a Hermaic pillar, the bust of Dionysus rises on a quadrangular case against which rests the god’s thyrsus, as well as a pan flute and a horn. With his outstretched arms, he supports a shell itself carrying a presentation cup. Next to Dionysus, associated with passage and transition, a Maenad dressed in a peplos and sandals carries a cup of wine to the lips of the god. Sitting at her feet, a putto plays the aulos (two-pronged flute). The embossed metal foot is in the Louis XV style. This pieece is in perfect condition.
