Malachite and Brass Tumbler, 19th Century
Probably dating from before 1860, this malachite tumbler bears witness to the craze for this stone and its work in veneer since the end of the 18th century. At first reserved for an opulent elite, the use of this stone gradually spread when Russian lapidaries became masters in the art of inlaying it. Here, our tumbler is nicely raised with brass and closed with a matching lid. Perfect condition.
