Empire Style Chandelier, 19th Century

All in gilded and beautifully carved wood, this Empire style chandelier is electrified and has 8 sconces. The gadrooned dome from which the lights rise is adorned on its belt with sculpted leaves. The arms are carved with acanthus leaves and connected to the central shaft by inverted flying buttresses sculpted with overlapping coins. The central shaft emerges from a bouquet of water leaves evoking the much appreciated motifs of the Return from Egypt period. The chandelier ends nicely with a sculpted flame to which the hanging chain is attached. The whole is in very good condition.
