Djinn horse or horse at the fence. Bronze Sculpture signed Pierre-Jules Mène (1810-1879)

This 20th century proof is the larger of the two models that have been edited. Entitled “Djinn Arab Stallion”, this sculpture is the work of Parisian Pierre-Jules Mène, one of the most famous representatives of French animal sculpture in the 19th century. Like many of his companions, Mène observes the animals attentively as soon as he has the opportunity and spends so a lot of time in the Jardin des Plantes. Like Barye, he created his own foundry in 1838 and retained its management until 1877. The workshop became a popular place for artists and writers, very popular and appreciated by big names such as Alexandre Dumas. Pierre-Jules Mène was then considered one of the best lost wax casting practitioners of his time. His talent was so well recognized that the Susse foundry bought the reproduction rights to his work on the sculptor’s death to continue publishing it.

Throughout his career, Pierre-Jules Mène will have exhibited in the most prestigious gatherings of the 19th century: the Paris Salon from 1838 to 1879, the Antwerp Salon in 1846 then the successive Universal Exhibitions in Paris in 1855, in London in 1862, then Paris again in 1878.

Our 20th century vintage edition, faithful to 19th century editions, is in perfect condition.
