Bronze signed Jean-Baptiste Clésinger (1814 – 1883) and Dated 1864
Clésinger is particularly famous as the sculptor of the tomb of Frédéric Chopin (1810 – 1849) and of the scandalous Woman Bitten by a Snake, presented at the Salon of 1847 and now on display at the Musée d´Orsay. It is also in his private life to have been the son-in-law of George Sand (1804 – 1876) although his relationship with Solange Dudevant-Sand (1828 – 1899) was short-lived. It is less for his animal bronzes, as here that of a winner bull at a bullfighting. The bronze patina and the perfect condition of this decorative bronze make it a sculpture of choice for collectors.
