Bronze Sculpture, Charging Mountain Ram, Signed Félix Guis (1887-1972)
This sculptor, born in Tunis and died in Marseille, had the leisure to discover all kinds of landscapes throughout his life. Each new region he traveled was an opportunity to study its fauna, and thus, in this sculptor’s work—primarily animal sculptures—one finds a variety of species immortalized in characteristic poses. Could our mountain ram be a souvenir of the discovery of the Alps? Ready to charge, the animal is belligerent and intends to attack first if necessary. The slightly sloping bronze base evokes the slope of a mountain. Behind the right hind hoof, the sculptor’s signature was traced into a plaster disc before casting. This bronze sculpture by Félix Guis (1887-1972) is in perfect condition.
