Ark of the Covenant Carried by Two Ethiopians, 19th Century Bronze

A myth from the Ethiopian Church relates that the Ark of the Covenant, containing the tablets of the Ten Commandments, was given by King Solomon to the Queen of Sheba. Their son, Menelik, stole the precious chest and brought it back to Ethiopia. This is what our gilded and patinated bronze represents. Two Ethiopians are carrying the heavy load, in every sense of the word.
