Antique Bronze Bust after Gaddi Torso, 19th Century
The original, the marble Torso Gaddi (from the Hellenistic period, circa the 2nd century BC) could not be more famous and thousands of tourists flock to the Uffizi Gallery in Florence every year to admire it. This muscular torso was probably that of a centaur, but its posterity was different. Since the Renaissance and up to the present day, generations of artists have drawn this bust, inserted it into new painted compositions or sculpted it. This twist stretching the abdominals and belly creates a dramatic tension that has not escaped the eye of the greatest and this is also what our 19th century cast iron copy in perfect condition wanted to convey.
