Pair of Painted Sheet Metal Planter. Consulate, late 18th Century
Very beautiful planters in painted sheet metal in empire green and adorned with decorations painted in gold. One will admire the very great delicacy of the decorations which on three sides presents a lictor bundle topped with a plumed helmet and laurel wreath. Arrows, flags and shield with the head of Medusa mark the perfect symmetry of the design. Arrows, quiver and composite bow painted on the other two sides evoke the goddess Artemis. The planters carried by lion’s claws rest on a pedestal also made of painted sheet metal. Some lacks, very good general condition.
