Small Bronze Depicting a Stag Beetle, 19th Century
Entomologist friends, lovers of insects with poetic names, this small decorative bronze is for you! This pretty beetle, also known as the stag beetle when it is a male – because of its imposing mandibles reminiscent of deer – is admirably carved and placed in a naturalistic manner on an oak leaf painted green. Note that females that do not have mandibles are called Great Hinds! The whole, in perfect condition, forms a delightful, poetic scene.
