Small Box in Tortoiseshell and Bone, 19th Century

Admirable work of tabletery, this adorable little box is all in tortoiseshell and bone. Delicate and precious, it presents an elegant veneer of tortoiseshell, skillfully arranging the tawny nuances of the material in such a way as to enhance the applications of bone plates. The latter, meticulously crafted, form like a lace on the surface of the box. The tablet maker took great care to reproduce the rivets that are usually found on wooden chests and to place, following the same model, the box on lion’s paws. The whole is in perfect condition.
