Solid Silver Sculptures after the Riace Bronzes, 20th Century

Erected on their portor marble pedestal, each of these two solid silver sculptures is made after one of the two warriors of Riace, rare very large Greek bronzes discovered off the coast of Calabria in 1972. If the originals have been preserved in the National Museum of Reggio Calabria are not contemporary – evidenced by the rigidity of one and the flexible contrapposto of the other – our solid silver sculptures bear witness to this attraction for Antiquity which does not weaken, even in the twentieth century. In perfect condition, they illustrate with finesse the virtuosity of the Antique Greek sculptors.
