Regency Chest of Drawers, 18th Century

Dressed in an elegant rosewood marquetry forming bands and friezes, this Parisian Régence chest of drawer embodies the sure and wise taste which, leaving behind it the pomp of Louis XIV, returns to more humility and lightness, announcing by a few jolts of gilded bronze the rococo soaring that were soon to invade furniture and the decorative arts during the reign of Louis XV.
Thus, the handles, the keyholes as well as the ornament of the apron already come alive with a movement that we feel bubbling on a delicate marquetry whose beautiful simplicity in warm and undulating hues need to be admired. Along the uprights and under the crosspieces of the three rows of drawers (4 drawers in total), golden grooves recall the monumentality dear to the previous reign. The legs are adorned with rococo motifs in gilded bronze and the top crowned with Languedoc marble.
