Plaster Bust, Antique Style, Late 19th Century

While this bust does not appear to have been modeled after a famous “head” from Antiquity, it at least borrows all of its codes. The haughty bearing, flowing hairstyle, and draped garment could just as easily be those of a goddess as a sphinx.
