Pair of Empire Style Bronze Lamps, 19th Century

Souvenir of ancient urns, these two lamps stand on a bronze body with lines borrowing from Etruscan art. Remember its heyday under the Directory and the Consulate, when military campaigns under the command of Bonaparte brought back thousands of ancient works of art!
Here, the openwork neck and the handles with Egyptian palmettes, elegantly finished with delicate swan heads, evoke the memory of conquests and ancient works discovered during archaeological digs in Italy. The formal simplicity of these bronze lamps in perfect condition exudes an obvious modernity, very close to what will be done in the 20th century with Art Deco.
