Pair of Empire Period Tripod Candlesticks, 19th Century

Faithful to the neoclassical codes of the late reign of Louis XVI, the Empire style reused the motifs that notably made the Queen’s dairy in Rambouillet so popular. Here, three bronze rams form the tripod base of a gilt bronze bobeche topped with an openwork dome and crowned with a pine cone. By lifting this dome and turning it over, a candlestick is formed thanks to a socket hidden beneath the dome. The ensemble, in perfect condition, rests on a marble base.
