Napoleon III Showcase, 19th Century

Perched on its feet shod in gilded bronze clogs, this showcase imagined in a dapper Louis XV style is the work of an era which, under the reign of Napoleon III, seems nostalgic for the styles that forged French heritage before the Revolution.

All the flamboyant characteristics of the rococo and gallant style are magnified here to give a slender and joyful movement to this showcase.

The marble top thus crowns an eventful door with a crossbow profile. Amounts and belts are raised with finely chiseled gilded bronzes. Four shelves covered in red velvet provide four spaces for displaying collections of objects or crockery. The last space is concealed by the lower panel of the door, itself adorned with a panel painted with a gallant scene. This fantasy is repeated on the lower sides of the showcase. The whole is in very good condition.
