Medieval Walnut Table, France, 16th Century
This type of furniture is a rarity and our table is all the more admirable for its remarkable condition, its unusual typology and its dating prior to the late 16th century.
All in walnut, this medieval table bears the traces of time, its patina is superb, the traces of use are the memory of several centuries of loyal service. And if its tray is patinated, marked by the succession of the kitchen and the meals, the superb crosspieces which support it present at each of their ends corbels carved with acanthus leaves. The turned uprights rest on square feet sculpted with flowers.
Remembrance of the very origin of the word « mobilier” in French, the two wrought iron rods fixed in the center of the spacers, crossing and joining under the tabletop, made it possible to free the latter from its base, making the whole assembly easier to transport , therefore more mobile which will gives the word « mobilier ».
The set is in very good condition and truly and authentically belongs to furniture produced in medieval times, before the reign of Louis XIII.
