Mahogany and marble top console « Retour d’Égypte ». French Empire, 19th Century
Discreet and yet charming, this “Return from Egypt” console celebrates the campaign of General Bonaparte who brought never before seen works of art and Egyptian souvenirs to France. Made of mahogany veneer, this console is covered with a gray Sainte Anne marble top while its uprights form the body of two Egyptian figures whose heads and sandals are in patinated bronze. A mirror slightly speckled by time and a gilded bronze keyhole depicting two swans define the perfect symmetry of this elegant piece of furniture. Very good condition.
