Mahogany and Marble Serving Shelf Stamped Louis Moreau (1740 – 1802), Late 18th Century
Already in its lines is emerging the neoclassical style which will flourish widely under the Directory, the Consulate and especially the Empire. All in mahogany, our sideboard has three shelves, each raised with a white marble top. The whole rises on high feet which give a lot of lightness and elegance to this service shelf. The JME stamp naturally corresponds to that of the Jurande of the Master Carpenters and Cabinetmakers (which disappeared with the Revolution) while the name of Moreau designates Louis Moreau (1740 – 1802). This renowned cabinetmaker supplies nothing less than the highest aristocracy as well as the superintendency of the Menus-Plaisirs du Roi, who orders him on several occasions, in particular in 1786. Very good condition.
