Madonna and Child, Oil on Canvas. Italy, 18th century
The soft and charming faces with 18th century lines are painted here with great delicacy in diaphanous tones. The subject is certainly classic, but its treatment is admirable. The label on the back indicates that this painting was purchased in Rome, Italy, which may explain the choice of this oval shape, evoking the tondo dear to Italian artists.
Virgin Mary presents us with the baby Jesus, arms open. The palette is soft and calm, Mary is graceful, the child is charming and already merciful. This beautiful devotional painting is presented in its period gilded wooden frame and the whole is in very good condition.
