Louis XIII Two-Piece Sideboard, 17th Century

Crowned with its canted pediment – which can be removed at will – this two-pieces sideboard from the Louis XIII period is of great finesse and presents elegant motifs still steeped in the French Renaissance. The niche of the pediment is framed by twisted columns while sides and belts are enhanced by a delicate frieze of dentils, a reminder of the classical architecture of Greco-Roman temples. Then, the upper body opening with two doors presents as moldings beautiful laurel twists in a delicious naturalistic style. Remarkably subtle, the diamond points are raised in their center by a faceted metal button in the shape of a diamond. The two belt drawers firmly seat the upper part while the lower part perfectly reflects its patterns, laurel wreaths and diamond points, and rests on flat ball feet with a beautiful volume.

The sides are molded panels in the center of which are beautiful sculpted flowers, in the purest style of the French Renaissance. The set is in very good condition and the patina is superb.
