Longwy Napoleon III Planter, 19th Century
A favorite pastime of the bourgeoisie of the second half of the 19th century, the care of indoor plants and winter gardens appealed to craftsmen who were commissioned with appropriate furniture. Cachepots, lounges and planters are the subject of attentive care and respond to the tastes of the time.
Here, our blackened wooden planter is all sculpted and chiselled with classic motifs punctuated by colored plates of Longwy enamels. The iron lining, painted green, has lost one of its handles but fortunately this does not prevent it from being easily handled. The whole is in very good condition.
