Bone Inro with Cat Pattern. Japan, 19th Century

All you have to do is add a thin silk or leather strap to rediscover the ancient use of this charming inro, all sculpted with adorable neko (cats in Japanese)! What could this small box decorated with bas-reliefs carry? Was it a pill box, a sewing kit or simply an inro for a child? If so, it was undoubtedly a wonderful gift, which reached us in very good condition.
