Miniature Portrait Signed Ernest-Joseph Angelon Girard (1813 – 1897)
This painter specialized in portraits, and not just any portraits. All the successive addresses occupied by his studio are in the most sought-after districts of Paris. From the rue des Mathurins to the rue d’Antin and the rue Saint-Honoré, Ernest-Joseph Angelon Girard painted for a wealthy clientele.
Having won his spurs with Isabey père and Ingres in particular, he has no trouble selling his talents. All the more so as he regularly took part in the Salons between 1837 and 1880.
Here, he paints a portrait of a young woman wearing 1850-1860s hairstyle and clothing. Her jewelry set seems to have been important because the gold necklace and earrings are meticulously represented.
Presented in a lovely gilded frame, this miniature portrait is in perfect condition.
