Demie lune Mahogany Console Table Stamped Claude-Mathieu Magnien (1741-1829), 18th Century
Settling on Rue du Faubourg-Saint-Antoine, Paris, after obtaining his master’s degrees in 1771, Claude Mathieu Magnien offered a fine production of mahogany and rosewood furniture under the “Nom de Jésus” brand, which met with great success. The Garde-Meuble de la Couronne even commissioned several pieces from him, including a chest of drawers for the Princesse de Lamballe’s apartments at the Château de Fontainebleau.
Our console table, in the Louis XVI style, which Claude Mathieu Magnien mastered perfectly, is crowned with a white marble top resting on a mahogany plated frame with two drawers, supported by gilt bronze sabot legs. The keyholes and corner pieces are made of the same material. The overall, light and elegant, is in very good condition.
