Spoon in mounted rock crystal, 19th century

A tribute to Renaissance cutlery, this spoon with its rock crystal spade and gilded bronze handle is highlighted with blue and green turquoise. The spoon, which far precedes the fork, is as indispensable to table service as the knife. It’s only in modern times that its use has become more refined. Our object, in very good condition, references Byzantine art in its materials and late medieval art in its motifs.
