Corsican Landscape Signed F. (François) Corbellini (1863 – 1943)
François Corbellini is today known as the pillar of the Ajaccio school. He spent his life exploring the Corsican landscapes that he loved so much in order to capture their subtleties and ever-changing nuances. Trained by Jean-Léon Gérome and Gustave Moreau in Paris, the painter left the capital to join the island of beauty that he would never leave again. His watercolors and oils on canvas were so appreciated that they helped promote the island to the metropolis. François Corbellini, very attached to his village of Piana, north of Ajaccio, died there in 1943.
