Cinnabar Lacquer Vase. China, 19th Century
In very good condition, this superb vase covered in cinnabar lacquer is highlighted on an exotic wood base. Delicately openwork and sculpted in medium relief, this lacquer features characters in a mountain background better known under the Chinese name of shanshui, a genre appreciated by artists and connoisseurs of Asian art. The intricately carved lid is decorated with a motif of lotus flower and prunus flowers. Very fine collector’s item.
