Charles X Period Folding Pedestal Table (guéridon), Circa 1824–1830

During the reign of Charles X, there was no longer any question of commissioning lavish, extravagant pieces like those of the Ancien Régime or the Empire. Moreover, the monarch appeared largely indifferent to the arts. Consequently, taste shifted toward the style of our English neighbors. The Regency style influenced French furniture, blending clean lines with graceful contours and elegant curves. A distinctive new feature was the use of golden-hued wood veneers—a hallmark of the Charles X style. This small pedestal table is a perfect example. It also features an elegant brass mechanism that allows the tabletop to tilt, as well as a stylish pedestal base with a beaded profile. The piece is in excellent condition.
