Centerpiece in Silvered Bronze and Crystal, 19th Century

This central crystal table set in a silvered bronze core is more of the Louis XVI neoclassical style than that of the Empire. An essential decorative art object for the French way of life, the centerpiece made it possible to arrange compositions of fresh flowers or fruit on the prepared table.

The chiseled motifs of young women dressed in the antique style punctuating the openwork belt are the allegories of the seasons. We recognize summer carrying an armful of wheat, winter warming herself by a fire, autumn offering a bunch of grapes to a putto and spring giving him a bouquet. The representations of flowered vases at each end enrich the use of the object and make it pleasant whether it is filled with flowers or not.
