Bronze of a Child Faun, after Claude Michel dit Clodion (1738-1814), 19th Century
What is this young faun doing? He looks preoccupied or maybe he just is tired. Judging by his pannier in which there are only a few bunches of grapes, one can imagine that the bacchanals are over and that our young boy, half-man, half-goat, is returning to where he came from or is patient while waiting the next party!
This patinated and gilded bronze in perfect condition is sculpted after that of Clodion, a sculptor famous for his mythological groups in bronze or terracotta. He was notably the pupil of Jean-Baptiste Pigalle (1714 – 1785) and the author of the decoration of the castle of Digoine in Saône-et-Loire.
