Bronze “Jaguar” Signed Clovis-Edmond Masson (1838 – 1913)
From the top of its gray granite base, a jaguar on the lookout seems ready to pounce on its prey. Thanks to a brown patina rendering the tawny nuances of the feline’s coat, the sculptor captures the essence of this animal. Clovis-Edmond Masson (1838 – 1913) was a student of Antoine-Louis Barye, a famous French animal sculptor. From 1867, when he was 29 years old, he began exhibiting at the Salon until 1881. He is the author of the equestrian sculpture of Rama V, king of Siam, today in Thailand. Our animal bronze is in perfect condition.
