Bronze Depicting an Iroquois Warrior, 19th Century
The subject is rare and original and its treatment particularly successful. The Iroquois Indians were not of much concern to the French in the 19th century, except for those who had settled in North America. Perhaps it is the memory of the battles waged against them during the creation of the colony of Montreal in the 17th century by Paul de Chomedey de Maisonneuve (1612 – 1676).
Regardless of its origin, this bronze has a beautiful patina and interesting details of the clothing, moccasins and Iroquois hairstyle of this Amerindian warrior. Placed on a marble base with a slight lack, this bronze is in perfect condition.
