Porcelain Flower Box, Bordeaux Verneuilh Factory, 18th Century
Unlike the flowerpot for utilitarian use, the flower box, still standing on feet, is intended to reproduce a miniature garden. Should we read on the polychrome medallions that adorn it some proposals for views, perspectives and activities specific to the garden in summer? Maybe. Be that as it may, this delightful little decorative object characteristic of 18th century French taste is presented on a white background enhanced with gold fillets on the edges.
Marked “VV” with a gold brush, for the Verneuilh workshop in Bordeaux 1787/1791 (note that the workshops still continued a few years later to decorate blanks that they had in stock).
