Bâtir Chisel Print Numbered, Dated 1989 and Signed Philippe Mohlitz (1941 – 2019)
A virtuoso chisel engraver, Philippe Mohlitz from Bordeaux has taken contemporary engraving to the top through a fantastic universe that can be identified at first glance. Disproportionate scales, mystical atmospheres of strange worlds, sometimes medieval, apocalyptic or strangely familiar, the creations are populated by curious, mute or disturbing characters like in our engraving this master builder, all dressed in white and perched on a high pedestal. At his orders obeys a crowd that seems between life and death. These emaciated bodies with empty eyes pull with the same impetus the cart carrying a gigantic statue, a severe archangel of an ancient time. The huge sculpture will take place in a building that looks like a cathedral where people are busy. At the top left and right, we build and below one prepares the boiling metal in a big cauldron or one falls into ecstasy and one implores the extraordinary statue. Titled BATIR (build) and numbered 33/100, this framed print is dated 1989 and signed lower right. Very good condition.
