Arab Rider on the Look-Out, Bronze Signed Alfred Dubucand (1828 – 1894)
French sculptor and award-winning pupil of Antoine-Louis Barye, he made his debut at the Salon of 1867 with a wax model depicting a dead pheasant. He will continue on this animal theme throughout his career, very attentive to naturalism and very daring concerning his patinas. Like his master, he enjoys experimenting with classic and chemical patinas.
Another part of his work illustrates with great talent and attention Orientalist or North African subjects. He stands out in particular in the representation of horses, as here where our Arabian Rider on the lookout renders with great detail the nervousness of the horse, his bridle and his hunting collar decorated with pompoms and his ornate saddle. The rider is dressed in beautifully ornate traditional clothing.
This bronze is signed on the terrace and in perfect condition.
