Alabaster Bust, 19th Century

An essential part of refined interiors, the alabaster bust is at least as precious as the marble bust. When the model, as here, evokes a beautiful and carefree youth, one cannot help but think of the Symbolists, whose whiteness and the movements of light across its surface inspired soft and poetic feminine busts. It is not impossible that the anonymous sculptor who crafted ours adhered to this intellectual and aesthetic movement of the second half of the 19th century. In very good condition, some scuffs are visible in the photographs.
