Aepyornis Egg, Madagascar
The aepyornis is a very strange creature, a giant bird which we do not really know when it disappeared. This giant bird measured between 3 and 3.5 m in height and weighed between 350 and 450 kg, although it was not the largest known bird. Despite this impressive build – or perhaps because of it – the aepyornis, like the ostrich or kiwi to which it is closely related, does not fly. Since then, it has been threatened by numerous predators, including human. The shards of this ancient egg have been reassembled to reconstitute the shell that protected a colossal chick before it was born. This fragile object of curiosity requires special packaging if it is to be shipped. Please contact us for a delivery quote.
