A pair of Silver Ewers by the Silversmith Mafteux (or Mattheux) de Chevannes, Second Empire (1851 – 1870)
This pair of silver ewers bears the Minerve hallmark 1st “titre”; it is the work of the silversmith Mafteux de Chevannes, a talented silversmith who worked under his own name and whose services were regularly requested by the very prestigious Maison Odiot.
This pair of ewers testifies to the so-called “eclectic” taste of the Second Empire. Renaissance and medieval influences can be seen in the motifs chosen for the decoration of these solid silver objects, which weigh a total of 1.985 kg.
