Okimono in ivory. Japan, Late 19th Century
In a beautiful milky ivory, this Japanese okimono shows a soft-faced fisherman holding a large fish in his hands. No doubt the fishing was good because the baskets of this fisherman are full! Probably filled with shells that he picked up with his rake. In perfect condition and unmarked under its base, this Japanese ivory sculpture will initiate or complete nicely a collection of Asian art.
