Pair of Agate and Gilt-Bronze Candlesticks, 19th Century

Inspired by the “Grand Siècle” (Great Century) of Louis XIV, these gilt-bronze candlesticks draw upon the decorative vocabulary of the 17th century: candle sockets featuring vegetal motifs, lion-paw feet, and bases adorned with acanthus leaves. The agate shafts evoke the art of *pietre dure* (hardstone inlay), which was highly fashionable during the reign of the Sun King. The pieces are in perfect condition.
